Hanging a TV over the fireplace is common now-a-days as it gives an artistic look to the room. Plasma TVs are the perfect fit to hang TV over the fireplace. In some cases LCD TVs can also be used.
Before you decide to place TV over the fireplace you have to check out some of the features of the fireplace and whether it is feasible to have your TV over the fireplace.
Most of the fireplace built in the earlier days might not have any hollow place in the wall to pass the wires for the TV. You have to check this. If it is made of bricks then it would be difficult to place the TV over the fireplace.

If the temperature is very high then you have to look for an alternative place for your TV.
If you are placing the TV at a higher location in the fireplace to avoid heat then the viewing angle might not right for you to get the correct images for viewing. Hence there is a need to tilt the TV downwards so that you get the right viewing angle. A Tilt Mount feature is also available for the Plasma or LCD TVs. You can use that feature for mounting your TV at a right angle for viewing.
